About Lulu's Resturant

Lulu's Restaurant is a family owned and operated restaurant located in Van Nuys, CA. They have been serving comfort food to the San Fernando Valley since 1976, and provide a family-friendly plane themed dining environment. Lulu's came to us with the goal of updating their outdated website with the goal of increasing sales on the site through an order online feature, and providing a better user experience.

Look And Feel

The new, mobile-friendly site needed to showcase Lulu's aviation theme within a wholesome, a family-friendly environment that is associated with Lulu's Restaurant. Using their recently renovated interior and existing colors; reds, charcoal and white, as a reference, we incorporated a wooden backround and plane illustrations into the logo and throughout the new design.



Stylescape

Setting the Scene

Using the findings from our discussions with Lulu's and the Creative Alignment activity, we put together fonts, colors, messaging and key site elements into a stylescape to depict how the new design would come together. The stylescape is then used by our developers to ensure branding is consistent throughout the new site.

Custom Solutions

Location Based Online Order To Fax

Lulu's needed an online ordering system on the new site, and to have a delivery or carryout option that would ask a customer for their zip code. The solution needed to be able to check the zip code to see if the customer was within the area that Lulu's delivered. If they were not in the delivery area, take out would become their only option. Lulu's also needed to receive all orders via fax, as this was the best way for their kitchen staff to stay up-to-date on all incoming orders.

Bringing Design To Life

After adding the menu, products, and custom functionality to Lulu's new site, our team began coding the approved mockups onto our sandbox environment. Our mockups show how the site will be laid out, and incorporate the design elements from the stylescape.

Conclusion

End Result

After thorough testing and approval from Lulu's, we launched the WooCommerce store. The end result is a stunning, site that showcases Lulu's Restaurant's delicious, quality meals within a custom and engaging interface. Rather than having to pay 3rd party ordering solutions a percentage of their sale, Lulu's can now keep that money.
